Eden Prime had been an unmitigated disaster by every possible metric. The beacon she was sent to retrieve had been destroyed, the Spectre sent to oversee her mission was (allegedly, she doesn’t have proof) killed by another Spectre, and half the colony had been destroyed. Worse still, she has to talk to politicians.
