Summary
Thunder rumbled, echoing off the walls and buildings of London, reverberating down alleys, rattling the windows of a bookshop in Soho.
Aziraphale stood at the door, lantern in hand, cloak hanging heavy off his shoulders. Squinting into the darkness for any sign, any movement except for the rivers rushing between the cobblestones.
Crowley should be back by now.

Summary
“They told me you were dead.”
Aziraphale took another hesitant step forward, but still Crowley didn’t even look at him.
“I didn’t believe it at first. How could I? I’d seen you just the night before at the bandstand. You were so alive. So angry. Did I ever tell you how breathtaking you are when you’re angry?”
If anything, the scrawny figure huddled in on himself and turned farther away.

Summary
The bus slowly wound its way through Oxfordshire, disgorging passengers, each feeling strangely relieved to be home, though none could remember quite why.
At the front, the driver sank into a daze, unknowingly following the road to London.
In the middle, two figures sat, tense, not quite touching, each lost in his own thoughts.
At the back, one last passenger slept. An earbud popped out, and tinny music filled the air.

Summary
After the Apocalypse, before the body swap.
Aziraphale and Crowley wait out what might be the last night of their existence, too afraid to reach out, too afraid to speak. Until one of them finds a way to reach across the divide.
--
One glance over his shoulder, back at the door. He could go back. Apologize. Open himself up to the one being he knew would never hurt him. Say the words that had sat on his tongue for countless centuries. He could, but he wouldn’t. Not tonight. He needed time. Time to get his head on straight, to learn to be honest with himself, to know what it was he even wanted.
And time was the one thing he didn’t have.

Summary
Aziraphale paged idly through his book, lit by the soft yellow glow of his halo, while Crowley slept, head resting on the angel’s stomach, shock of red hair spilling everywhere. The scents of the day still clung to him, distant yet distinct, like a dream.

Summary
Crowley’s hands snapped into place, resting on either side of Aziraphale’s, taking the weight of the books. He stood unmoving until Aziraphale released them, hand dropping away without ever touching Crowley’s.
It was a dance, of a sort. An intricate, millennia-long dance, learning each other’s movements until they could navigate even the narrowest of spaces without ever quite touching.

--
Blinking the ice out of his eyes, Crowley could see the look of shock and horror on Aziraphale’s face. Knew he wouldn’t want me here.“G-g-got caught,” he managed, struggling to unclench his jaw. “Sssssstorm.” It was more a puff of steam wrapped around a vowel than a word.

Summary
They should have discussed it more.
Wasn’t that what humans did? Spend weeks and months talking about what sort of home they want, what sort of life, dreaming of what moving in together will be like. Making sure their dreams matched up, their expectations.
They didn’t buy cottages – in the middle of a forest, no less, half a mile from the nearest village – without considering questions of…of hobbies, and use of space and…and living arrangements. They certainly didn’t take such a step without…defining their relationships.

Summary
Aziraphale rarely dreamed.
He didn’t sleep, so that already made it exceedingly unlikely. But sometimes – when his mood struck him just so – his mind would start to drift, and he experienced what humans called daydreaming.
And he always dreamed about one specific demon.
Who, unknown to Aziraphale, would dream of him back...

Summary
It began a year after the Apocalypse failed to happen. The exhaustion, the emotions - rage, fear, sorrow - ripping through him one after another, destroying the balance in which Aziraphale lived his life.
And the miracles, growing weaker as he struggled to grasp the ethereal power that had once flowed through him.
Until one day, Aziraphale lost his temper...
