“What, this old thing?” Skulduggery holds the gun up, waving it around. “Please. This couldn’t hurt a fly. Unless you had very good aim, I suppose…”
“Down,” the man repeats sharply, hair rising up to float around his head, eyes a bright-red hue.
Valkyrie freezes. They don’t know anything about this man or his abilities.
Skulduggery only sighs, flipping the revolver around his fingers so that he’s grasping the barrel and holding the grip out to the teacher. “If you insist.”
The man snatches it away and flicks the safety on. “Students, inside. You two, come with me—we need to ask you a few questions. No funny business.”
“Well, now," Skulduggery murmurs, starting after him, "I can hardly help being funny."
And Valkyrie, despite their current situation, has to smile.
