“We’re gonna start with the classics,” he told Spock over their chess board. “Knock-knock jokes. Knock, knock!”
He’d figured that this was the easiest introduction to human humor Spock could get. Common jokes that followed a fairly straightforward format were the most logical, right? Vulcans loved rules. Knock-knock jokes had rules.
Spock looked at him with an intense expression for several seconds before saying, “Is this funnier to one with English as a native language?”
Jim pursed his lips. “Right."

He looked into Spock's eyes, his face so close Spock could almost not focus on it. Jim's hot hand cupped his cheek. “You are amazing,” he said.
Spock's eyes felt hot and there was a lump in his throat. “Thank you,” he said, his voice rough.
Jim smiled indulgently. He closed his eyes. “I'm ready for sleep now if you are.”
Spock nodded. He brought shaking hands to Jim's neck and pressed.
