Summary
Dragonlords can easily be recognized by their lizard-like features. They sported scales on some parts of their body and had snake-like eyes. When the Great Dragon attacks Camelot, Arthur and Merlin set out to find Balinor, the last of the Dragonlords.
But when Balinor dies on their way to Camelot, his gift is passed down to his son, Merlin. With the distinctive features of Dragonlords, there's no way for Merlin to hide his true nature from Arthur. -

“Don’t come closer,” Merlin begs, throwing an arm out, and that– the hand attached to that arm is what halts Arthur in his place.
It's blood-drenched from whatever lifesaving measures he might have attempted, but more importantly, where the back of it was pale and smooth the last time Arthur looked, it is now covered in what look like dragon scales.
