"Not like this!" Shauna finally answers hurriedly, glancing at her feet before shaking her head weakly as she looks back at Jackie. "Not like this." She repeats in a slower voice, her own words making her ears burn with shame and fear as Jackie stares at her with those big eyes as if she were reading Shauna's twisted mind.
Shauna stared right back at Jackie, who looked like a deer caught in headlights.
Jackie looked away for a second, noticeably swallowing before opening her mouth to utter a question. Shauna, an English enthusiast who could write about any topic presented to her, no matter the question, couldn't even fathom answering this question in a full sentence.
