Summary
Before Earth was officially colonized, it was tested—in secret, in silence, and without oversight. One such experiment, buried beneath red stone and forgotten by time, reactivates against all odds and produces a gem that should never have existed.
Elsewhere, a soldier forged on another world returns to Homeworld just in time to watch it fall apart. Disillusioned, he abandons the war and disappears into Earth’s shadows.
