This does involve Buck with a sa history. Never graphic but be aware of your mental state and be kind to yourself. If you're not feeling triggered, it's a good story!!

The team put their gear away and began to climb the stairs. They were all starving and lunch smelled wonderful. As they climbed up to the loft, they continued their conversations but as they got to the top of the stairs, they all went quiet as they heard Buck speak.“You want me to come and work for you? Me?” Buck said. Once he was in everyone’s sight, they saw that Buck was in the kitchen with his back turned to them. He had a phone pressed between his ear and shoulder, one hand stirring a pot on the stove and the other shaking in some herbs. “That is… Wow, okay that is a huge honour, man!”

Evan Buckley is offered a chance to work with his old SEAL buddy, Steve McGarrett, on his task force in Hawaii. The problem is, it means leaving the 118 for a year. Summary
[Podfic]
He puts the truck in park in front of Eddie’s childhood home. Christopher shifts in the back, already unbuckling his seatbelt. Eddie is frozen with his jaw set, eyes hard and unblinking as they bore holes through the windshield. Buck was here once before, after that relief trip to Texas, but he is under no illusions that this time will be similar. For one, he doesn’t have the buffer of other firefighters to hide behind. This isn’t a visit that will last a couple hours, and so the sugary, superficial niceties will eventually crumble when it’s mid-way through the week and he’s still hanging around. There is also the shadow of everything that has happened since the wildfires skulking behind them, waiting to be found out.
But, this is Eddie and Christopher, needing him to have it together, so he paints on a smile and squeezes Eddie's knee and slides out of the truck.
*
Eddie's dad gets sick. Buck goes with him and Christopher to El Paso. -

“But, seriously, that sounds great. I’m actually excited to try more of your cooking.”
“Yeah?” Buck gives a small noise of agreement as he focuses back on the truck. “Then maybe I can make you something special, sometime. Just the two of us.” His whole body halts, a watchful air around Buck as he turns towards him slowly. Eddie’s heart is beating a bruise against his chest. “I can make us dinner. You know. Like-... Like a dat–”
“BAMBI!”
All heads swing to the open bay doors, one mountain of a man standing proud with his hands at his waist.
"...Rory?"

Just as Eddie finally finds the courage to ask Buck out on a date, an old friend of Buck's shows up and their relationship is deep. Eddie tries to stay hopeful but with a potential long-lost love standing in the way, he knows he has to do what's best for Buck no matter what. Even if that means letting him go.
