“It’s raining!”
It takes a second for the words to set in. Your body is heavy, mind slow with grogginess. You blink away the sleep clinging to you, and see your Stardust hovering over you, unbrushed hair falling in front of his eye. He’s not wearing the eyepatch, but he is still wearing that ridiculous sleepcap.
“It’s… raining?” You say, testing the words out in your mouth. Tastes strange, fake, like a bad scene change.

Sunny hadn’t always been afraid of the animatronics. It just seemed as if one day he suddenly became terrified of them. As always, their parents did nothing about this. Didn’t care at all. It’s always Mari who has to comfort him, who has to get him up for school, who has to feed him, who has to keep track of him.

Tim drags them up to a rooftop. Everything feels easier up there, floating above all the normal people, smog blocking the stars. The world is muffled to them, and they to the world.
He turns to face Jason, seeing a thousand questions and worries on his face. Before he can ask a single one, Tim simply says, “Would you kill someone if I asked you to?”

Summary
“Well, the term only just started,” Kel finally says, sounding a bit cheeky. “Wouldn’t blame you for missing your little bro!”
It gets another throat-laugh out of Hero, and Mari smiles despite herself. She wishes she was tangible enough to find Kel and ruffle his hair. That was endearing, even if it was a cop-out.
“You know I do, Kel, that’s not even a question,” Hero mumbles, and for the first time since answering the phone he begins to look a little tired again. His eyelids lower, his shoulders drooping. Mari holds her breath—so to speak—and Kel seems to too, the silence on his end of the line crackling through the receiver.
Then Hero smiles again. Like brother, like brother.

After Sunny musters the courage to tell the truth, Mari's ghost is allowed to roam free. She follows Hero back to his college dorm and watches as his mental health worsens over the course of three months.
(Or, the five times Mari watched Hero pick up the phone for Kel, plus the one time she did it for him.)

Dick frowns. “No, I’m not.”
“What.”
Oh boy. Oh shit, did Dick forget to tell him this. “Mama said,” he says, trying not to sound defensive, “I don’t have to be a girl, if I don’t want. But I don’t like the boys at school much, not during gym anyway, so I thought maybe I could keep my hair and clothes and everything, but change with the girls.”
It had seemed like, as Alfred would say, an elegant solution. Dick’s beginning to think he might get another talk about life’s necessary evils after all.
“Right,” Bruce says, after a long moment. He’s staring at his burger like he’s never seen it before. “Okay. That’s— Okay. I need to talk to Alfred, about that.”

Taking a bracing breath, Jason raised his hand to knock on the front door. And hesitated. Why was he here? Well, he knew why, it’d been churning for weeks in his brain like it was a damn ice cream machine. But why—ah, to hell with it. He knocked loudly.
Shuffling bled through the door, a muffled “one moment!”, followed by more noise before Dick opened the door with a very polite, “Can I help you?” The chain was still latched and the acrobat was clutching a floor-length bathrobe around himself like he was a scandalized housewife.
Jason threw up lackluster jazz hands. “Surprise!"

He doesn’t really remember what day it is, or what’s going on, or what kind of cleaning duty Swansea’s going to slap on him, since he’s too much of an idiot to actually try to fix any of the faulty wires or flickering lights around the ship. But something doesn’t feel right.
“What’s going on?”
“Come on,” Swansea says. “We need you in utility.”
