Summary
“I don’t understand.” Shaking his head, Castiel tries to make sense out of Sam’s words, “You defeated Chuck. You got your freedom back. That was what Dean was fighting for the whole time, why would he just throw that away, Sam? What happened?”
“What happened?!” For the first time, Sam turns his eyes away from the road and his voice rises, suddenly laced with fury, “Man, you fucking died! What else do you think would mess him up so badly?!”
---
Coming back from the Empty after a whole year, Castiel discovers that the Bunker is not the home of the Winchesters anymore. Quickly the hunters who are residing connect him to Sam and Sam doesn't hesitate to bring Castiel to Dean, telling him some very unexpected things during their way. Summary
“I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.”
―J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the KingFor a man raised on hunting and hellfire, who'd seen angels fall and demons rise, he should’ve understood sacrifice better. Should’ve known love when it was handed to him.
Instead, he'd stood there like a coward, letting Cas fall without reaching out to catch him.
The walls, the silence, the stillness — all of it bore witness as Dean Winchester, who had carried the world on his shoulders and survived hell itself, shattered into pieces over the one thing he could never fix, never fight for, never save.-
Or, Dean grieves, grows a beard, becomes a dad without realizing it, and get's his happy ending. (Not a fucking rebar, for fuck's sakes)

Summary
Dean wasn't prepared for the emotional onslaught that would come with seeing his father again nor the emotional toll it would take on him and Castiel's relationship.
Gabriel is still alive and has decided to take matters into his own hands regarding his little brother and the hunter he's so keen on protecting.
Once again Sam is completely and utterly done with this bullshit.

Summary
Dean could not exist like that. He had fought and fought. Clawed and bit anyone who got too close. Burned every bridge that anyone dared to build. He did not know how to heal, to grow. But, he knew how to fight.
And fight, he would. Until the day he died. Fuck Cas. Fuck his stupid sacrifice. This wasn’t a happy ending. Not for Dean.
So, Dean took a step forward, leaving behind everything he had almost been. He had to fight to keep going. Not to fake happiness or retire or even find a life without Cas. But to bring back Castiel back, no matter the cost. Their story would not end with goodbyes.
---
Basically a happy ending for Dean and Castiel because I can't handle sadness -

Summary
Following Chuck's defeat and Jack's vanishing act, Dean Winchester leaves everything behind and takes off running. With freedom comes the fresh hell of grief and the finality of it. But, of course, life has a sense of humor.
Running quickly turns into fatherhood, quickly turns into a cabin in the mountains, quickly turns into dealing with all the rising pain and trauma and grief that he's been holding back. But maybe it'll all end up alright. After all, he's got a baby Jack to take care of, a cabin to fix up, and the relentless urge to sing his troubles away. In a way, it's a life he's dreamed of, mundane and slow with a kid a parent could only dream of and the security of a roof over his head.
Dean's realized that there's just one thing missing. There's always been just one thing missing from it all.
