Probably abandoned! But extremely enjoyable to read.
Nightmare dissapearred to a dangerous realm which he barely escaped. When he returns he has trouble getting back to normal.
On his birthday his gang make him a cake with 500 candles and its really sweet. Dream also tries to wish him a happy birthday.
Killer goes to NMs office to get a mug which is where things go south. On his desk is a flower which shows Killer NMs memories of the strange world and takes them all (including the castle) to the realm.
From here, survival horror begins!
They find Dream there who tells them Cross was taken to the mountain in the middle of the world. NM figures the map is shaped like a figure eight with the mountain in the middle and the void surrounding.
They save Cross from a strange facility run by skeletons who've been killed and now work together.
Dust helps them realize the world is somehow made from tampering with the void using dust and a machine. No one, probably not even the residents know where it is.
In the past there was an issue with overpopulation. Now the world is a wasteland where only the strongest survive. Many seem to succumb to "the dust collector"
The dust collector throughout the story follows the gang and shows up through illusions of dust right when they're most comfortable. He preys on their psyches despite having little physical power.
NM has slowly changed to be a kinder more caring person. He loves his crew which is also in his mind his biggest weakness. Theres a push and pull between all of them which is caused by their unwillingness to communicate this. Killer especially seems to deal with this. He was around the longest and dealt with some pretty horrible treatment from NM. He hides that he touched the flower causing their adventure.
Where the story is at, Combat (the dust collector) creates a recreation of NMs castle to trap the gang. They sleep there and appreciate their flaws disappearing under Combat's illusion. There NM is able to say he missed them during his absence and they all are a little positive where it doesnt disturb him. Cross and Dream are sperated from NM and captured by 4,11, and 9 (members of the strange organization). They're honestly kind of chill but Cross doesn't like them since they tortured him. Emphasis on KIND of chill. Dream sort of pacifies them but Cross is not having it and starts a fight. Then he gets possessed by XGaster fight because hes losing and XGaster's a possessive FREAK!!
I think Combat is a gaster trapped in the void who maybe made the world? Not sure. He has a riddles three type technique going on which will let people leave. NM avoids it because its apparently very dangerous and his crew doesn't approve of a self sacrifice.

Summary
Nightmare wasn’t at all expecting Dust to confess to him on a random afternoon, and it was odd that Nightmare couldn’t sense it coming. He didn’t believe he harbored the same feelings for Dust, even if he cared deeply for the other. He didn’t think he was ready to date someone so suddenly… So why did he say yes?
And then shenanigans ensue. Shenanigans that might include unpacking your childhood trauma. And also identity crises, it turns out. Maybe more.

Dust confesses to NM. NM says that if Dust likes NM then it follows that they date. Dust is like 'I guess if you want to?' And NMs like 'Sure' and then they avoid each other for a week and then hold hands during breakfast under the table.

Mobtale (Mafiafell?) Sans aka Carmine goes to a human juice joint to get soused post prohibition(?) and runs into a lovely fella on the keys by the name of Lux. Well wouldn't you know it Lux is some sort of traveller between worlds. He lost his job at the laboratory and now does odd jobs. Carmine is a mob boss. So far they've talked once and are keen on each other but Lux is too cautious to pursue it. Partially because he doesnt want people to find out he's out of place.
Despite fulfilling the role of the drop dead speakeasy dame, Lux is taller than Carmine and has a deep voice and powerful magic. You gotta love the gender of it all.
