He says and bows as deeply as he can manage with Naruto clinging to him – which isn’t very deep. “If you hadn’t been there…” He pauses, the imagery of what could have happened too violent in his mind. and he shakes his head to get rid of it.
“Please,” he says. “Can I do anything to repay you?”
“Maa, sensei,” Kakashi says, sticking his hands in his pockets. “I didn’t do it to get anything in return.”
“I know that, Jounin-san, but I want to,” Iruka says, and blurts the first thing that pops up in his mind, “how about dinner?”
