Summary
Pepper understood that Cale was the doom of Tony, the moment the three of them crossed their paths beside the buffet table in the “staff only” area. It was a cold, sinking feeling in her heart, the prophesy of future problems, when her boss, standing beside, was trying — and failing — to keep his face appropriate and not of someone who was lost in… admiration, probably.
She hasn’t met Cale before. She booked him for the gala, sure, among all the other models that were “decorations for the event”, but his — and mostly hers — hectic schedules didn’t align enough, and it wasn’t like she had to meet him at all. Models came and went, their roles temporary and utilitarian.
But she entertained the thought of hiring him for some other events of the Stark company, since… well. The young adult was beautiful. Painfully so.
Now, standing in his proximity for the first time, she realized what a double-edged sword that beauty was. Tony didn’t just see Cale. He noticed him. In a way Pepper had rarely seen him notice anyone who wasn’t connected to a tech patent or another stupid superhero idea. And that, she shouldn’t ignore.

They both stare at the diagonal tearing. It had a red layer of his hoody, green of t-shirt and light pink of the skin. Stiles tried to look deeper, but blood started to pour in some absurd cartoonish way and everything around got soaked. Kali put both of her palms over the wound, but they were too small, and it was too late.
Elbow dip in blood, how fitting.
"I didn't want to end it like this," she whispered with a hint of sorrow. She slowly started pushing Stiles forward - backwards for him. It took him three steps to get into the shallow icy water, four more before he finally fell and Kali started dragging him to the middle of the river. She shivers just a little bit before it's only her head above the water. The boy was floating beside her, coloring water around in red, "If you have any last..." she fell silent and released the body.
Stiles was dead.

What could have been done in a week has been in progress for over a month - nogitsune felt like a cave digger in the late Kamakura Period. By now it only seemed like the Stilinski family had a screwy luck with various fire creatures. They were human-like, sometimes tall and sometimes short, but brewed in cold.
The boy obviously had an affinity with fire, and that ancestor... progenitor, was something big.
This cell was designed for the fox, but the fox had Stiles. Boy was drained of magic and was arguably petite, but there are no people on Earth that have no magic creatures in their bloodline.

I got pruney and I thought I was dead, and when it was just pain and... nothing, I saw light and it was Daren - the only sober of us - with a flashlight in his hands, searching for me under the water. He pulled me out. But the one who brought me to him was... - she called herself - an ocean creature. Your mother.
