It was only when he was lying under the sheets, having been cleaned up and tucked against Kojiro’s warm chest that his own lust-driven thoughts caught up to him. The chorus of ‘mine’ echoed in his mind, unforgiving and unwilling to let him forget.
Kaoru hated himself for even thinking the word. Kojiro wasn’t his, he never was his, and he never would be his. They weren’t exclusive. They weren’t a couple. He couldn’t claim him all for himself.
But for now, Kojiro was his.
Kaoru and Kojiro are what some refer to as ‘friends with benefits’. For a while, it doesn't matter that Kaoru harbors deeper feelings for the other man. As long as Kojiro is seeing other people, then it’s a simple thing to push down his feelings and pretend they don’t exist.
Then Kaoru finds out that they’ve been exclusively sleeping together for four months, and Kaoru spirals.

And he feels stupid for not noticing it all sooner.(Or Kaoru is bad with feelings, makes an effort and learns about taking his time because love is hard. And it's even harder when you have to juggle loving your childhood best friend and dealing with the constant haunting presence of his ex-friend.)

Summary
So, this is fun. Sitting in a car with his best friend who has shot straight past pre-heat right into a full-throttled heat in the span of fifteen minutes is great. Definitely on the short list of Kojiro’s top life experiences. Definitely something he wants to experience again. Or, you know, would want to experience again if he were a complete masochist.
Kaoru came to him because he trusts him. The last thing Kojiro wants to do is violate that trust. But breathing shallowly through his mouth isn’t helping as much as he’d like; he keeps gulping down that scent, and it’s so fucking good, so fucking delicious. He wants it on his tongue.
When Kaoru's heat strikes unexpectedly at S, Kojiro helps him out, as friends do.
