Kai is in a crisis.
“Hyung, do you think I’m enough of an Alpha?”
Beomgyu raises an eyebrow at that, his attention leaving the TV screen and settles on Kai’s face.
“As someone who first-handedly witnessed you almost break down a door when you presented, yes I’d say you are.” His hand goes to pinch at Kai’s cheeks as he speaks. “Why do you ask?”
“I don’t know…” The younger mumbles, eyes darting to the screen. They were watching one of those White House movies that involve a macho Alpha protagonist in his full form, complete with a beard and shit, looking the furthest he could possibly be from Kai. He gestures towards the screen. “Don’t you think I should be more like… that?”

Beomgyu panicked and tried to break free because if anyone would notice something was wrong, it would be Soobin. He tried to break free, but the older man held him tight. “You’ve been acting really strange-” he said, and Beomgyu could see in his eyes the moment everything started to make sense. “You’re in heat.”

At the door, Kai wraps her arms around Taehyun’s neck. “Have fun at school today,” she says, sweet.
Taehyun wants to say that school can never be fun, but then Kai is kissing her and she finds herself kissing Kai back, and for a moment, they stand transfixed like that, in the hallway, kissing. It’s almost a perfect morning, even when Taehyun is running on three hours of sleep and Kai would never love Taehyun the way Taehyun loves her, but she lets herself have this, just a little more. Taehyun actually has fun at school: her professor praises her essay during class, and Heeseung pays for her bagel at lunch. During boxing, Taehyun executes excellent, perfect footwork, and her punches are all quick and precise. Despite that, the rest of the day could never live up to that morning. Not even close.
