Hei Xiazi leaned against the wall, folding his arms. Even after so long, it was still strange to see him without the jacket. In these clothes, in profile, he looked almost like a character in a film. The inky black of the suit matched his hair, slicked back for once in honor of the occasion. Silver cufflinks gleamed with an engraving Xie Yuchen couldn’t quite make out—a spiral. No, a flower. He found his gaze drawn up along the arch of Hei Xiazi’s spine, the curve of his throat, which bobbed as he swallowed. Behind the glasses, Xie Yuchen couldn’t trace the motion of his eyes, but he felt them on him all the same.

As he watched an entire team of doctors try to loosen the unconscious Zhang Qiling’s grasp on (the equally unconscious) Wu Xie, Pangzi spared a moment to wonder whose luck was worse: theirs, or these poor bastards’. If he was any less woozy, Pangzi would have warned the doctors to not bother; no force on earth, apparently up to and including his own body collapsing, could get Zhang Qiling to let go of Wu Xie.

At this point, Wu Xie is pretty sure Xiaoge has some kind of underlying condition. Maybe the tomb had particles dangerous to Zhangs, or maybe he has a cut somewhere that he hasn’t disclosed.
Wu Xie is trying not to worry, but the older man’s heart monitor keeps jumping when Wu Xie is around, and Wu Xie can’t seem to find any explanation.
