Cleo studies Pearl’s expression. Their own expression softens for a fraction of a second, and they put a hand on Scott’s shoulder. “I know. You’re stressed out. It’s bad for glitches. Just take a breath. This happens sometimes.”
Pearl gives Cleo the slightest nod, then tries to return to mining. Don’t say anything. Don’t say anything. Don’t say–
Her hand balls into a fist and taps against the stone wall once, twice, three times.
Scott involuntarily mirrors her. He stares at his hand. “I swear to the Void.”
Pearl freezes.
or: The soulbond mechanics of Double Life accidentally mean that the players share a bit more than a health bar. Not everyone is prepared for it.

I mean, sure! It made a lot of sense; he had to put a lot of time and energy and materials and patience into his child, but he didn't quite expect the counting to become part of his every day routine.
