When the man Sam had tried to chat up last New Year’s had ditched him at the bar - leaving Sam standing in the middle of Stark Tower with nothing but two grand-gesture bourbons and a pole-axed expression on his face - Sam was sure he would never see those slouched shoulders or that irritatingly cute forehead wrinkle again.
So, of course, those were the first things he saw when he walked into Clint’s party a year later.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Sam muttered to himself.
