    Martin really wished it were that easy, that simple.

    He wished he lived in a world in which he’d met Jon first instead of Jonny. Where there was nothing lingering in the shadows of their pasts reminding them that there would always be something missing, even if they both chose to believe otherwise.

    A world in which he wouldn’t need to choose between reality and ghosts.

    If the universe were kind, Martin's soulmate timer would have stopped the first time he touched Jonathan Sims, those ever-changing numbers fading into pale remnants on his skin, the search finally over.

    But his timer was already long dead, lost to a man whose skin had been smudged with lightning bolts and the silver glow of starlight.

    Logan was good at labels, at categories. Logan sorted the citizens of his city into 6 different categories in his mind: heroes, villains, vigilantes, criminals, government authorities, and civilians, and knew how to deal with each. But… but what was he supposed to do with him.

    Virgil was just trying to survive, though he didn’t think the part of him that compelled him to throw himself into fights whenever he saw the superhero Bluebird struggling had gotten the memo. His English teacher was right; he really was stupid.

    When the villain criminal… when Shadow Caster gets injured while throwing himself into the line of fire for Logan, Logan can’t find it in himself to turn him over to be arrested. Luckily, he knows a doctor very, very well.

    Virgil is going to get kidnapped adopted by the end of it.

    Martin actually loves the small-village life, farming and friends and found family. Jon is... managing. They're making it work.

    But the universe they landed in is occupied, and its current rulers are very interested in the new kids. Entities made of Fear, attached to a damaged ex-human and his surprisingly sneaky lover? Who could resist playing with that?

    Everyone has plans, and plans under those plans. What happens when a web grows too heavy to support its own weight?
