Were you driving everyone crazy with it, thinking nothing but Louis, Louis, Louis?" He says it casually, teasingly, but he's looking out at the crowd and Armand can't see his eyes. Sometimes he wonders if he taught Louis too well how to mask his own thoughts.
"No," he says immediately. "No, no, that was — that was love. Is love. This is …" He hesitates. "A fascination. Nothing more."
"A fascination, huh," Louis says.

Summary
“Petra tou Romiou, huh? Didn’t figure you one for tourist traps,” Daniel offers into the night air.
"They say that Venus, Aphrodite, whichever name you know her by, emerged from the sea foam here. She was never a baby, or a child, she emerged beautiful, with love and lust and desire following behind her,” Armand recounts.
“Yeah, this is her rock we’re sitting on, apparently," Daniel agrees non-committedly. "Cut the bullshit, we need to talk.”
Armand says nothing. Continues staring out at the ocean.
“Look at me,” Daniel hisses.
Armand turns to face him, and the breath is punched out of his chest.
Seeing him again, in the flesh, beautiful and inhuman, Daniel is forced to remember that this is not just another story he has been chasing. There is no book at the end of this year's long line of inquiry, no documentary or Pulitzer-winning article. No professional detachment. There is just this—two monsters on a beach and a horrible amalgamation of emotions that fill Daniel’s rotted heart and scarred throat.

Summary
Armand’s sitting in a recliner by the window, legs propped on what appears to be a concrete block cleverly disguised as an ottoman— or maybe the other way around. In his hand is a glass of blood, mostly finished, with a blue crazy straw sticking out of it. He’s staring at Daniel with nothing behind his eyes.
“Did you feed me your blood while I was unconscious?”
“I felt we left our conversation unfinished.” He slurps the remnant of his drink; divorce seems to have shredded his air of mystery. When he lets the straw drop out of his mouth, his lips, slightly parted, are bright red. Daniel decides to look at the straw instead, which says eid mubarak in cursive.
“I got it on Amazon,” Armand offers, like this makes any sense. “It was a multipack.” He removes the straw and sucks the bottom end contemplatively, his red-red tongue removing every last drop of blood, still staring at Daniel. The back of Daniel’s neck feels hot. He’s blaming it on the vampire blood making him horny. Slowly, carefully, he rises to his feet._______
Or, Armand deals with his divorce by going on a bender.

”Clasping his now twice offended head, Daniel kicks the door closed behind the man-shaped whirlwind that just stormed into his home. He doesn’t need to further investigate the identity of this intruder: there’s only one person he knows with enough mental malaise to come pounding down his door, hours before dawn.”

Daniel’s message had been short and to the point, devoid of his usual humor, informing Louis that his boyfriend had stolen into their apartment to find him, and would he please deign to let him know he was alive.”Louis’ answer is equally curt.

Louis makes bad decisions, and Daniel pays the toll. He’s not too mad about it, though.

On the morning of his fiftieth birthday, Daniel Molloy discovered an appointment on his kitchen calendar that definitely hadn’t been there the night before.
It was written in an old-fashioned hand in dark red ink for 7pm at an infamously overpriced restaurant he’d never stepped foot in. He tried and failed to think of anyone who’d been in his apartment lately who would’ve booked such a meal for him and came up blank. Certainly not his daughters or Alice. It could’ve been his agent, but then again mystique was not the middle name of that flashy asshole. So then who?
A celebration for Daniel’s birthday turns into a night he’d never forget - if his lover didn’t have a thing for erasing his memories.

“Blood poisoning is, in fact, extremely serious, beloved. Now please, tell me, which of these should you take?”
“Uh, these are all pretty strong, I don’t need any of these.”
“Yes, you do.”
“It’s not healthy to take antibiotics for no reason!”
Looks like Armand will have to crush the pills into his food.

I can't feel my legs...
Daniel feels something cold shrink-wrapping his brain. He feels a squeeze and then an expanding, like a sponge in water. He's in a room, a fancy hotel, the walls are peach and the carpet is teal and it smells like cleaning products and his arm burns and aches and he moves to scratch it, looking down and expecting to see the track marks in the pit of his elbow, but those are not track marks, they're too big for that, too open and too... He looks up and Armand is in front of him, mouth open and red and he laughs, he laughs.
