"I'm so glad you're alive," Nick said.
"What? Why wouldn't I be?"
"Do you know the feeling when you wake up, and for a couple of moments you don't know who or where or when you are? Like a computer you actually turned off instead of just closing it, and it takes like a minute to come up again instead of a few of seconds?"
"Oh. Yeah. I hate that," Charlie agreed.
"For a minute I didn't remember you were my boyfriend, and I was devastated." Nick couldn't very well tell Charlie he remembered Tao telling him Charlie had killed himself.
Charlie chuckled. "You're a dork," he said.

When everything good in Nick's life turns to dust he seeks help - and gets the chance to change things which already happened. It comes with a price, though.

It's not as angsty as it sounds, I promise. It mainly covers the "fixing it" part.

Summary
After another disappointing relationship fizzles out before it starts, Charlie Spring finds himself wanting to reconnect with one of his former best friends (and on again off again crush), Nick Nelson. But how do you get back in touch with a person who drunkenly confessed his feelings to you, whose heart you broke in the process, and who you haven't spoken to in years?
___Or, the one where guidance counselor Charlie finally realizes hot carpenter Nick has loved him for years, and has to convince him to give him one more chance before it's too late.
___
This fic has inspired a sister story, told from Nick's POV: Remember Me.
If you enjoy this one, join me over there! It's not a straight re-telling; it's a standalone story that focuses on Nick's perspective and fills in some of the gaps from this one. Thanks to AO3 user KariCl569 for pointing me toward the song "The Promise" by Tracy Chapman. It's beautiful and so fitting.

Summary
Nick loves Christmas. Like, LOVES Christmas, and he wants to share the spirit of the season with everyone. His house is always extravagantly decorated, not just the usual lights and a wreath, but all out.
His new neighbor, Charlie, is a bit of a scrooge, but if you'd spent the last 30 years doing Christmas with the Springs and Driscolls, you would be too. Living next to Christmas chaos and trying to work from home has pushed him to a breaking point.
After Charlie takes out his frustrations on innocent decorations, how will the two find their way to a happy Christmas?

Summary
“Yeah, so, I’m gay. That’s not going to be a problem, is it?” He asks, though there’s only one answer to the question that doesn’t end with Charlie storming out and demanding the housing office give him a new roommate.
“Oh god, no. No, that’s not—I’m sorry—I promise it’s not,” Nick races to say, clearly flustered. “I’m not homophobic, I promise. I’m sorry I made you think that. I’m an ally,” he says, holding his fist up, as if in solidarity.
or: After a last minute roommate change, Charlie Spring finds himself sharing a dorm with the hottest man he’s ever seen. Nick Nelson is kind, lovely, funny, accepting, and worst of all, straight. A fact that is unfortunately not going to stand in the way of Charlie’s ever growing feelings.
