Summary
Shouta reached into Hitoshi’s mini fridge for the last water bottle within. He frowned at the number of energy drinks and iced coffees in the fridge alongside. That was a lot of caffeine. He hadn’t seen or known Hitoshi to want or drink that much caffeine possibly ever, despite the jokes he made about it. Hitoshi’s overflowing garbage told a sequel to the fridge story that Shouta really wanted to hear. Still, he focused on opening the lid on the water bottle before turning to hand it to Hitoshi. To his shock, Hitoshi’s head was dipped against his chest, eyes blinking long and slow, head bobbing just a little. He seemed to be falling asleep right there, despite the uncomfortable position and the situation and the boy’s own best efforts. Hitoshi managed to open his eyes a bit more, meeting the unsure gaze of his father. He couldn’t help the tears squeezing from his eyes.
“Dad, I can’t... I swear, I’m trying.” Shouta could hear what his son was really trying to say, even over the noise of Hizashi’s arrival.

Searching the pdf for the chemical, Hobie scans the results and quickly discovers a pattern.

He slams the laptop shut.
The truth dawns on him. When was the last time he actually had a period? Hobie’s heart falls to the pit of his stomach when he realizes he doesn’t know.
However, what Hobie does remember is letting Pav, Gwen, and Miles hit it raw after their ragtag band’s first show last month.

It started simple. Just a cramp in his knee. If he could use it as an excuse to get out of practice early, he would.
But it didn’t stay so simple. Over the course of weeks and months it progressed, and spread to his other knee. It’s not like he can’t use his legs anymore, but he can’t walk for very long without becoming exhausted or risk them just collapsing. So, life has become a lot harder for him.

(Or, a really bad argument between Dee and Splinter and it gets progressively worse for the younger until it gets better because of a very surprising turn of events)
