He immediately picked up the letter from the table and read it with quick eyes, even though his vision was blurry. Everything went black. He collapsed into the armchair behind him as all the memories of the past few days came crashing down on him. All his life flashed before his eyes.

He skimmed his fingers over Hawk’s shoulder, then down again. When he reached the scar he traced the spot with his fingertips first, forefinger skimming along the smooth, raised parts of the flesh.
Then he leaned in. Experimentally, he planted a soft, delicate kiss there. Hawk tensed under his touch, shoulders flexing, before realizing that it was the press of Tim’s lips and relaxing.
“Having fun back there?”
“Mhm.” Tim kissed the spot again before letting his lips roam farther, dotting kisses at random. “You have a very pretty back. I’m having a lot of fun admiring.”

“The Lacuna thing?” Luke disappeared for a second, before returning with a blue flyer. He came down the stairs, handing it off to Hawk. “This research lab was putting these up around campus and handing them out. They gave me one. They say they can erase people’s memories, specific things. Specific places. Specific people.” He shrugged. “I think it’s a bunch of bullshit. Why? You want to try it? Milan not all it’s cracked up to be?”
Hawk swallowed thickly, staring at the number on the flyer. “I don’t know if I want to try it. But I think Tim already has.” He looked up. “And it’s not bullshit. It works.”

Summary
It's 1986 and Tim Laughlin is trying to make it through the AIDS crisis in San Francisco by protesting where he can while also working at Ward 5b at San Francisco General Hospital. He swears he's over Hawkins Fuller until Marcus comes back from a business trip in DC with devastating news. This will be the last time Tim will see Hawk, but it's also the time they'll finally get it right.
Or: Hawk gets AIDS instead of Tim and Tim dedicates his whole life to taking care of the man he loves.
