Summary
Aang really should have seen it coming, honestly.
Toph was the only one, aside from Suki and the adults, who had never personally suffered from Zuko. Toph didn't have a reason to hate him as much as the others did. It left her with the ability to really see him, ironically. Their whole relationship just... snuck up on him, he supposes. They were always focusing on other things like being in the Air temple, or running away from Azula, or finding ways to defeat Ozai. One day he just noticed just how close they were.

Times it was glaringly obvious Zuko and Toph were best friends but neither would admit it.
