There’s something funny about lies, the way that as you keep telling them, you seem to almost end up believing them yourself. The story as you experienced it becoming warped and soon you don’t even remember the actual truth.
Sometimes it’s nicer that way, taking the fabrication over the reality. It’s easy to do when you’re the only one who saw the whole thing.
Alex was the last one to arrive in the black space, he was the only one to remember what actually happened.

The Torchbearer was an intensely fascinating person to Dema's Performer. He was fast, much faster than anyone with his build should be, and he had a secret which travelled with him as he made his perimeter escape from the city. He knew the Performer's true name. He knew who Clancy was, even when Clancy didn't know himself.

Eddie hangs out by the door while Harrington leans on the desk to ask the secretaries about some form or another. They trip over themselves to help him out. Goddamn Harrington getting all the middle-aged ladies in a 30-mile radius to swoon over him. It’s unreal.
Not that Eddie doesn’t get it. Harrington is objectively beautiful. He’s also charismatic, great with the students, kind of funny. And on top of that, he has the audacity to be a nice person? Eddie can’t say he really blames the local moms for getting their panties in a twist.
Not that Eddie would ever be into Harrington. Imagine the mess.

But it was hard to avoid Oliver Wood. As fellow first year Gryffindors, they had every class together, and Oliver was loud. He would cheer and boast in flying lessons with Madam Hooch, he would snore like a foghorn in History of Magic, his charms would get successively louder as if shouting would suddenly make the spell work (it didn't, and Flitwick finally started docking points when Oliver got too loud). Everyone liked Oliver, and Charlie even let him join some of the quidditch practices, even if he couldn't be on the team. Oliver would talk about the practices for hours, even mumbling about it in his sleep. His brothers suggested he try to make friends with him, that they'd be good for each other, but Percy would wrinkle his nose and bury it so deep in his book that his glasses would slip off.
