Except now he can’t focus because he’s thinking. Of the fact that he was somehow in the lead, without question when Akechi managed to score so highly in the last round, that it was both frustrating yet addicting to watch and well....kinda hot. Hence the whole make out on the backstairs thing.
Akira cannot control his reactions to winning or losing, and most likely doesn't want to.

She doesn’t remember what prompted it. Or how they became secluded from the others, as that’s something everyone seems to have been avoiding for some time. But Akechi’s mouth tips up, as if he’s been waiting, wanting this to occur, and she hates that even more than she hates this entire situation.
“Ah, so we’re back to that. Your father, the innocent victim of my corrupted deeds,” he drawls, putting down his drink to fully engage.

It seems strange that the universe would curse people with the possibility of meeting a soulmate through nightmares. For most, it’s by way of dreams or some kind of connection during slumber, but fate has always liked to make a mockery of Akira, and thus gives him the reverse.
His mind recognises his soulmate through shared bad dreams. And they’re not just bad, they’re terrifying.
