Luke’s never really been afraid of the dark. He’s never really been bothered by the fear of the unknown. But right now, when his heart is so full of uncertainty, being suffocated by the dread of something ending just as it was about to begin, he feels the fear creeping in, filling up any spaces that used to be empty and free. The spaces that had been waiting for the reassurance of their success at the Orpheum, for the sensations of hope and accomplishment swell in, right where they were supposed to stay.
All of the questions and anxiety, and the feeling of being held back, so close but so far, is making his head spin.

“And you know who I am,” he pauses so long Julie thinks that’s all he’ll say on the matter but then he speaks again, and she can just make out the hints of a smile through the shadows on his face, “Reggie posts a lot on instagram stories. You’re in a lot of them.”
“I recognised your hat. From your christmas card,” she offers and feels her own lips pulling into a smile at his bark of laughter.
