“I’m Atsumu! What’s your name?”
The boy mumbled out an answer, and because his voice was muffled by his mask, all Atsumu heard was “...Omi.”
“Omi?”
“Kiyoomi,” the boy said in a much clearer voice.
But Atsumu was already attached to the name. “Omi-Omi! Let’s go!” Shamelessly, he grabbed him by the hand and tugged him behind him. He felt responsible for him — the boy clearly needed all the protection and guidance he could get. Atsumu can be his hero.

The story started when the Sakusa family moved into their neighborhood in Amagasaki when they were nine. Atsumu would always remember that he saw Kiyoomi first.

Summary
“One time,” Kiyoomi’s like, and Atsumu wonders if his other teammates who are in the studio right now are actually as stunned as they look. Bokuto, Hinata, Kiyoomi and himself have always been especially close, grouped together even by the media, their fans affectionately dubbing them MSBY’s Four. But out of all of them, he knows he’s the one Kiyoomi’s closest to, the most open with. So he knows that, despite not seeming like it, Kiyoomi can talk a lot, especially if it’s about something embarrassing for Atsumu. Atsumu smiles at that and thinks, I’m gonna win the friendship test, even though it’s not a competition. “He nearly cried because he was homesick.”
“Omi-kun!” Atsumu cringes when his voice breaks because of how high it went, just now. “That’s not even true.”
“Of course it is.”
“Yeah! I was there,” Hinata announces. Then, “I was the cockroach.”

“Regardless, a photo of you two—” Foster paused, seemingly searching for words. “Canoodling, to put it lightly, is splashed all over the news and social media —”
“Canoodling,” Atsumu repeated. “It was a drunken mistake—”
“It was a moment of weakness,” Kiyoomi interjected.
“We cannot afford another scandal,” Foster said with finality. “We’re telling everyone you’re in a relationship.”

Atsumu had been called an idiot both by people he knew and didn’t know, fairly all of his life. He’d much rather disagree with them whole heartedly, but what he had teased Hinata for on live national television was something he would agonizingly call himself an idiot for as well.
Or where Sakusa does not get that headcannon out of his mind and sees red, point blank rage, marching to Atsumu's apartment to scream bloody murder.
