Summary
Lan Zhan doesn’t know how he feels about the fact that he’s graduated to the ‘teen table’. He’s not even sure he knew it existed. It always seemed to be all grown ups except for the babies’ table before. Still. This is a Jin family event, and the Jins are always the most lavish, and also somehow never get the old traditions quite right. Lan Zhan knows from Uncle that they’re too showy, not refined. He’s never said so, but he can just see it by his face. And now there is a teen table and Lan Zhan is a teen.
He stares at the seating plan and then looks up at Lan Huan. He’s trying to stop his eyes widening, but Lan Huan always knows how he feels. He takes him by the hand as they go and find their table, and Lan Zhan can’t help but squeeze it back tightly. They arrive at a similar time to the other teenagers, all vaguely familiar. Lan Zhan thinks he recognises Jiangs, Nies, a Wen. There’s some awkward shuffling and bumping as they find their places. Lan Zhan is struck with horror when he realises he’s on the opposite side of the table from Lan Huan, but relieved that the spot next to him seems to be empty.
There is *literally* no prize for guessing who’s in the empty seat.

There's an unfamiliar middle blocker on the opposite team, one they've played a thousand times. "I've never seen her before." And Wei Ying is pretty sure she would have remembered her.
"That? I don't know her name, I think she's new to the team." Wen Qing assesses the woman. "I bet she's trouble. Look at how tall she is."
Well, yeah, she's a middle blocker. Wei Ying bets her height is what got her the position. She's tall and she's, like…super cool. Her dark hair is pulled up into a tiny pony at the crown, revealing an undercut underneath, and she's lean and muscular. She must notice Wei Ying's gaze on her because she shifts where she's looking and looks directly at Wei Ying. Wei Ying grins and waves, but the woman just skitters her gaze elsewhere, pursing her mouth. Hmph. Well. Rude.

Wei Ying.
They have never met, but they seem to know all about one another. Brought up in similar circles, just in different cities, they had both risen to fame at roughly the same time. They both play first violin in their respective orchestras. They're both considered young virtuosos.
Lan Zhan cannot stand Wei Ying.

Summary
Wei Ying didn't often think about what he was doing as he was doing it—that way lay madness and a lot of self-doubt. Still, as he was half-naked in bed with Mianmian, with Lan Zhan, also stripped down to his waist, spooned up behind her, he had to pause for a moment in the middle of undressing her and wonder just how he had gotten here.
Or, Wei Wuxian, thinking he's just being a good buddy, decides to get Lan Wangji together with Mianmian. Things don't go as planned.
