Summary
An unstoppable scream wrenches its way out of the demon as the feeling overpowers every sense in his body. He knows he’s gripping the woman’s arm too tightly, but he can’t seem to care when it feels like his core is igniting from within.
Somewhere on the other side of the county, a boy gasps awake beside a hospital bed. There’s beeping behind him, loud, counting down. Summary
Stiles blinks and they’re in the car, and Derek is flouting both seat belt laws and common sense so that Stiles can lay across the bench seat with his head in Derek’s lap. Someone must have brought him a blanket because he’s not cold anymore, but he can’t seem to stop himself from shivering. Derek is stroking his hair, petting him, sort of, in a way he hasn’t really done before and it feels nice but it also makes Stiles nervous because Derek is being weird and that’s usually a bad sign.

"He's harmless. Look at him," Derek says, and Stiles bristles.
"I am not—"
"You smell what I do," Talia speaks over him. "Do not be so easily fooled."
Stiles isn't sure whose side to take. If he agrees with Talia, he argues against being set free. If he agrees with Derek, he admits he's weak and helpless. Neither option is appealing.
"Yes," Derek says. "But he's a kid, and he's terrified—"
"Actually, I'm seventeen and very brave—"
"—and he has no idea what he is."
