Those are some of the first words Ajax, starving college student extraordinaire, has the misfortune of hearing upon waking up in a brave new world from what he's fairly sure is a very fatal accident involving water and a shit ton of electricity.
Okay, so he's not dead. That's good. But what's this about him being stuck playing the character Tartaglia? Tartaglia, as in the no-good, one-dimensional, cartoonish villain who met his untimely, gruesome death in the first act of the original game?
Forget this. Like hell Ajax is going to share that fate.
And so begins one man's journey to save himself from his awful destiny.

“Khaslana,” Mydei responds, his voice hesitant as his finger finally dips down to press over the injury Khaslana had previously been hiding.
Over the startling crack in his skin.
Oh.
Khaslana’s eyes widen, his arm shooting out to grip Mydei’s wrist. Mydei offers no protest, simply staring, frozen in shock.
“You’re…breaking,” Mydei mutters, so quietly.
Khaslana screws his eyes shut.
“You weren’t supposed to see.”
Or: Khaslana trudges through millions of cycles, stealing Coreflames and losing himself all while he clings to the memories from his original Flame-Chase Journey, and of his original Mydeimos.

Summary
When Phainon turns around to look up at him — wishfully up his chiton — he's met with Mydei's shins. On his left ankle is a thin golden anklet, and further below—
"Apologies for my tardiness. Move aside."
Phainon is looking at Mydei's toes. Each perfect digit of his toes, right by the splashing water Phainon is in. Every inch of Mydeimos is perfect, of course. But at this moment, Phainon finds himself admiring Mydei's feet, taking in the beauty of Mydei's muscled calves, leading down to his ankles, to the perfect arch of his foot.
Phainon thinks about Mydei's feet. It spirals further than he expected.

Phainon didn't know, but he wanted to try... titans did he want to try. Despite everything he'd done in past lives, Mydei still found him again. Their meeting hadn't been perfect, far from it. However, despite the things he'd done, the lives he'd taken... Mydei had still chosen him in this life. Phainon will doubt, will question, will hate himself, but he will NEVER give up. Mydei won't let him.

Mydei rescues Phainon from Strife's trial. They rescue each other from its aftermath, as best as they can.
