Summary
After deciding to sue the department, Buck finds out he has a daughter that he didn't know about. Getting her in his care, he needs to learn how to be the dad she deserves while fighting to get his job back, mending relationships, and navigating the realization that his best friend might mean more to him than what he's been thinking this whole time.
Basically it's girl dad Buck with slowburn Buddie
(Ps I mainly chose lawsuit era so that the kids could be closer in age 🤷🏻 if you don't like lawsuit era fics I swear that it's not super relevant past a certain point in the fic. It's very buddie heavy and cute and silly for the most part)

Summary
There's a part of Eddie that's tempted to do something insane, something that'll absolutely fuck up this Eddie's day, if he's a real person with a real life that Eddie is just borrowing for the time being, and not just an elaborate figment of his own subconscious. Something like drive away from this hotel in Lubbock and hop on a plane to Los Angeles, track down whatever version of Buck lives there now, see what happens. See if Buck would smile at him again, without the weight of history between them. If maybe, in a different world, he'd want Eddie.
Or: in the aftermath of a deadly car accident, Eddie finds himself with the chance to revisit other lives he could have lived: other worlds, other possibilities, and maybe - just maybe - a second chance.

Summary
“Sure, I love the zoo.” Chris is saying with that perfectly adorable giggle that makes Eddie want to melt whenever he hears it—which is far too infrequently these days. “My dad takes me there all the time.”
Eddie’s head snaps up at that, quick and sharp. His fingers go numb and he scrambles uselessly with the tongs as they fall with a loud clatter against the grill.
Because Eddie can count the times he’s been to the zoo on one hand.
It’s Buck who’s been taking Christopher there nearly once a week for years.

Summary
And, here, looking at his best friend, he can see that something’s broken inside him, too. And, maybe it’s the therapy he’s had over the years, his sessions with Frank, but Eddie wants to talk to Buck. He wants Buck to talk to him. Buck, who just looks so fucking sad, still in his dress blues, one hand drinking the beer, the other coming up to loosen his tie.
This morning, Eddie had noticed Buck tying, untying, retying the tie with breaths of frustration, fingers shaking. “Eddie,” he’d said lowly from across the room, and Eddie wouldn’t have even heard him if he hadn’t been watching. “I, uh, can never – I can never get this right.”
