Summary
(An unofficial sequel/semi AU to Hail Mary, by Andy Weir. If you haven't read the book, MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. I'd honestly suggest reading the book first. It's awesome!)
~
(Seriously, there are so many spoilers in here. The book is excellent, and I don't want to ruin it for you. GO READ IT FIRST!)
~The series of "never-supposed-to-happens" was really growing quite ridiculous. They weren't supposed to survive this mission. They weren't supposed to sleep together. Ilyukhna wasn't supposed to be able to get pregnant. She most certainly wasn't supposed to be able to carry a healthy child to term in a solar system that wasn't hers, and the child really shouldn't have thrived the way she did.
However, the toll of survival had to be paid. Those early years on Erid were treacherous to say the least, and in the end, it was only father and daughter who managed to survive the litany of nutritional deficiencies. Olesya Ilyukhna quite literally gave her life to save her daughter upon the tiny glimmer of hope that maybe some part of her would get to return to Earth.
And one fateful day, return she did.
