Summary
"Mama Fenge, Fenge Biyos, Gaiathra Triclops, the Obelisk of Shade and Wind, the Pillar of Sand,” The girl, Topaz, listed a couple more names in different languages Veritas has never heard, “Whatever you want to call that thing.” She pointed upwards to the immense Tower stretching upward endlessly in the distance.
“What do you call it?” Aventurine asked with a smile and a curious tilt of his head.
Veritas cleared his throat and tried his best not to sound ignorant, “Well, the Academy just calls it The Tower…”
There was a moment of pause before the tanned man barked a sudden laugh that rang into the air like the tolling of a bell, and Veritas was struck by the beauty of the fine laugh lines along the man’s face. It took Veritas’s breath away and he struggled to hide the flush that turned his ears red.
“Oh, scholar, that’s funny,” Aventurine said caustically, wiping fake tears from his face, “You academics don’t have a single creative bone in your bodies, do you?”
Veritas felt his eyebrow twitch in irritation.

Summary
Aventurine flicked the disk of metal up, and the Professor watched the coin glint tauntingly in the fluorescent lighting.
“Would you like to make a bet?”
Professor Ratio said nothing.
Aventurine snatched the coin out of the air, slapping it down on the scarred wood of the desk with a dull thud.
“Heads, I’ll be here next week. Tails, you’ll expel me by Friday.”
“I do not make bets.” The Professor stated coldly.

Summary
Flaring her broad wings, exposing the translucent lavender webbing beneath, she roared. And as one, the Old Guard followed, drowning out all activity and noise as they marked the start of the Second Choosing.
Dragons and humans alike, stilled, as the small group of Selected stepped onto the scorching sands of the hatching grounds.
Among the selected, Veritas found himself focused on a small boy, skinny and a bit short for his age, that had a trail of blood dripping from his hairline and down his cheek. His dirty blond hair stuck to the side of his face and a prominent black mark on his neck drew Veritas’s eyes. As Veritas idly assessed him, the boy’s shoulders tightened and then he peered up through the fringe of his hair, directly meeting the dragon's gaze.

The Dragon rider choosing ceremony leads to disaster as Veritas unwittingly bonds to a human with brilliant eyes.

Summary
“Agent Washington.”
'No! Don’t say a word. Don’t tell them! They’ll kill you.'
Epsilon’s voice rang out in a distorted tone as if from a damaged, old recording, that hiccuped and stuttered through the alarming words; Agent Washington shook his head roughly in a vain attempt to banish the phantom.
“How are you feeling?”
There was only one right answer.
“Fine,” Washington mumbled even as his hands fisted in his short hair, his own blood and skin trapped beneath his ragged bitten fingernails, “I’m fine.”
He wasn’t. The deep furrows of new scars and the red of fresh scratches around his implant attested to that. He knew it. The Counsellor knew it.
That day he was certified Article Twelve.

Summary
It took many lifetimes for Nate to become Nathan Drake. He had all the chances he needed and more to reach that high point in his hundreds of years of existence. For how it ended, he didn't regret a single moment.
...
"Here, Sam, say hello to your new brother." Cassandra Morgan placed the 3 day old baby in Sam's arms gently, carefully coaching the 5 year old on how to hold a child. She turned to her husband and they spoke in low tones as Sam took a few steps away for privacy.
"Hi, Nate." The five year old whispered hoarsely, "hi again. I'm sorry. I swear I won't screw up this time, I swear." Sam leaned down and kissed Nathan's forehead, "I'm so sorry, Nathan."
This was the same Sam as before, and just like Nate, he remembered everything.
Nate didn't know if it was for better or worse.
And so began the second lifetime of Nathan Morgan.

Summary
“This looks quite exquisite,” Alhaitham commented, taking a vase of a unique abstract pattern from a shelf. Tighnari and Cyno eye him weirdly—like he has grown two heads of some sort. Alhaitham glances at them and raises an eyebrow, hand still holding the vase with utmost care. “What?”
Cyno clears his throat, while Tighnari blinks twice, “Alhaitham, I don’t mean any offense, but I would have expected you to choose something blander than a uniquely designed vase.”
“It’s almost as if you have acquired Kaveh’s taste.

Summary
Alhaitham sinks his hands into the tangle of eels and scritches randomly. How long was he out for? His avatar still needs its rest. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for him to have slept a few days away. The eels wriggle happily under his hands. Underground as they are, it's hard to assess the time of day.
It's fine either way. Being notoriously treacherous, it's not uncommon for travelers to take much longer than expected to complete expeditions in the desert. He can always say he was waylaid by wenuts. It's not even a lie.

Summary
The first time they meet, Aventurine sees the mark before he sees Ratio’s face. Eighteen elegant words scrawled in bold, black ink tracing the curve of Ratio's exposed deltoid like an invitation. Who is Aventurine to not take the obvious bait?
“‘Does the conscious act of reading another's soulmark constitute as a defiance of fate or alignment with it?’” he reads aloud, lips twitching into a half-smile. “How befitting of a renowned scholar such as yourself. It’s very… unique.”
Whatever Aventurine said seems to pass some unspoken test, because Ratio reaches up and removes his headpiece. "A paradox, self-contained and self-contradictory. One worth contemplation, wouldn’t you agree?" Ratio’s eyes, a brilliant shade of rusty gold, catch the light as he inclines his elegant head and extends his hand. "I am Veritas Ratio."
“Aventurine of the Stratagems,” Aventurine answers, flashing a polished, professional smile as their hands clasp in a firm shake. “A pleasure to meet your acquaintance.”
Or:
In perhaps the greatest defiance of fate, Aventurine is given choice.
