There had to be some misunderstanding. Maybe Dick was distracted with worry and a thug got a lucky shot in? He tried to ignore the voice in the back of his head reminding him of the force a punch had to pack to leave that kind of bruise.

Bruce doesn’t think he’s a bad person, not when he has dedicated his life to the righteous mission of justice.
Bruce knows he can’t be a great father; he already has his life’s purpose, and it’s not parenting. But he’s not concerned. Really, Bruce doesn’t consider whether he’s a good or bad father at all. He doesn’t give himself time to think about it.
Maybe that’s the problem.
