She peeks an eye open.
At first, all she can see is a mass of [...] dark brown hair—which is more than enough, really, to work out the exact amount of screwed she is. The visual makes her suddenly quite acutely aware of all the points of contact between her and her temporary roommate, best friend, and current most serious crush, one Hermione Jean Granger, who’s cuddled up to, or rather, practically asleep atop of, Ginny.
So. That’s a problem.

Ginny's never minded sharing a bed with Hermione when she stays over, well, if you don't count that she has a—frankly, massive—crush on her. And Hermione doesn't even know Ginny likes girls—you know, like that—much less anything about her crush. And she's still got a couple days before the World Cup, and too bloody many before they are back at school. She has no idea how she's going to manage.
And thats not even getting started on the cuddling.

“Do you know what day it is?”
“Saturday, last I remember?” Lily tries—though, it had been dark last she remembered, and this is clearly not.
The witch hums like she got it correct however, then asks, still peering into her pupils, “Do you know the year and date?”
“Umm, Halloween? 1981?”
The other witch promptly drops her wand.
“Guessing I got it wrong a bit?” Lily half jokes. [...]
“Umm. Yes—Well,” The witch stammers, paleing considerably. “W—Do you know your name, Miss?”
“Lily Potter.”
The witch in front of her loses what was left of the colour in her cheeks.
“Can you bring that other girl back? Hermione, I think? She seemed to be able to get through a conversation without looking like that.”

On Halloween, 1981, Lily Potter was murdered by Lord Voldemort. Or, rather, she thought she'd been. Instead she finds herself not dead, still 21, but in 1998, starkers, at Hogwarts in what is clearly the aftermath of a battle.
She's had better days.

“Look, I'm not Lestrange.”
“I am aware of your disdain for your dear husband Be—”
“Honestly.” She rolls her eyes. “I'm not Bellatrix, don't be obtuse.”
“Really?” He's uncertain what game Bellatrix is playing currently, but it's definitely another tally in the 'worryingly crazy' column. [...] “Well,” he drawls, “the likeness is rather uncanny.”
[...]
He swallows. Groping for some sort of conversational control, he begins, “I think I know what you are going to s—”
“I'm Hermione.”
Severus blinks, then shakes his head slightly. “Alright, I didn't know what you were going to say, but that hardly makes you seem sane.”
On the list of things Severus expected to happen in his day, a half crazed Bellatrix showing up in his office and insisting that she's not, in fact, Bellatrix was exactly none of them.
...If this is the DADA curse's way of getting rid of him, he has to at least give it points for creativity.

Pansy rolls her eyes. “Hermione, you’re a clever woman, do you really think you’re getting out of this office without telling me what happened?”
“I had hoped so, yeah.”
“It’s clearly bothering you, otherwise you’d have just said it. You can tell me anything, you know that right?”
Hermione looks away but nods. It’s really annoying when Pansy’s got the gall to be accurate.
“The reason Andy’s pissed is—” Hermione’s cheeks heat. “Well, I sorta kissed her sister yesterday.”
Pansy’s eyes go wide. “Are you—Don’t get me wrong, the woman’s stunning, I can’t possibly blame you. But I thought she’s in France?”
“Narcissa is, yes.”
Pansy raises her eyebrows in a silent question.
“She has more than the one, you know.”

Hermione's week hasn't been getting better—there's an irate Andromeda, stress at work, figuring out what to tell anyone about this mess with Bellatrix, and, well, figuring out what she feels about said mess. That's not even getting to what Bella might feel.
And, honestly, the oncoming holidays are hardly helping.

Summary
Bellatrix is just inside the doorway, all sharp edged femme—long legs, dangerously tall heels, and black curls draped over devistating, sanity ruining, bare collarbones.
The dress is a deep emerald—because of course it is—clinging tight till the skirt flares out, a somewhat daring off the shoulder neckline. She couldn’t look the part of the mysterious, beautiful, unspeakably dangerous client more if she'd been leaning on Hermione’s desk, smoking, wearing a hat with a black veil just over her eyes.
“What—” Hermione shakes her head to try to clear it. “What are you doing here Black?”
“Well Granger,” she leans back against the inside of the doorway. “I think someone is trying to kill me.”

Hermione is happy, or at least largely content, in her job as Wizarding Britain's Premier (read: only) PI. Or, was before a “redeemed” Bellatrix Black showed up at her office.
It's fine. She can stay professional, even if it is the witch who tortured her. It's not like it's her first case—She'll just keep her distance, figure out what's going on, and collect the (hopefully) huge payday. She'll manage.
At a minimum, she's had worse plans.

“Oh Harry! You missed it. It’s the most beautiful love story,” Hermione says, hugging him.
He pulls away with a laugh, and sits down next to Ginny, Draco sitting opposite next to Ron.
“How much has Hermione had? Two butterbeers?”
Hermione smacks him over the head and Ron chuckles. “And firewhisky. But she’s not wrong. Ginny here’s been holding out on us. Only just realised she’s had a crush on Delacour for nine years.”
“Nine— that’s almost as long as us!” Draco gapes at her.
Ginny sighs. “Yep. Guess I’m joining your ‘I thought I hated someone but turns out I had a massive crush on them the whole time’ club.”On the way home from her latest Quidditch match, Ginny stops for drinks with her favourite brother and hears all about how stuck-up Phlegm has broken his heart. Merlin, she hates that witch. She hates her.
So why do Ron and Hermione think she has a crush on the woman?
And, the longer they talk, the more she thinks...
They can't be right? Can they?Bloody Hell.

How? All she did after dinner and drinks was go to bed, and now she’s back in…1994. The day of the Quidditch World Cup. But— but that’s not even the strangest thing. The strangest thing is…she’s herself.
She looks in the mirror. Yep. Herself. Twenty-five-year-old body. Definitely not fifteen, as she’s supposed to be.
Or will be in a few weeks. It’s not September yet.
The rules of time travel are very clear. Don’t change anything. Don’t show yourself. And whatever you do, don’t see your past self. It will drive you mad.
