Sometimes he got these… waking nightmares.
He'd always had them. Other kids were afraid of the ocean because of sharks or drowning. Oliver stood on the beach, sobbing and terrified, because everytime he blinked he saw images of seaweed that wrapped around his legs and dragged him under.
Those were bad enough, but sometimes— sometimes —the nightmares weren't about things happening to him. Sometimes they were about him doing things.
