“Excuse me for asking, but… um, do you have much experience with homicide?”
Jesper’s heart skipped a beat. “Lots. We do lots of homicides.”
“Pardon me?”
“Solve them, I mean. We solve a lot of homicides. And… other things of that description.”
“...”
“Continue, please.”
“Recently my employer… passed away unexpectedly, and the guests in the house have raised concerns that the circumstances are suspicious. We are willing to pay a generous sum for your troubles and provide accommodation.”
He couldn’t breathe. “Just give me an address and a name and I’ll be there as soon as possible.”
The person on the end of the line rambled off a long, distant address that Jesper jotted down on a stained napkin. “And that name is Van Eck.”
“Sorry?”
“Van Eck.”
