“Nah,” Alex said. “They’re not going to last.” Alex caught Reggie’s eye and gestured to Luke and Julie. “Look at them,” he said. “I know that look.”
“What look?” Willie asked. “Julie’s looking at Luke the way I look at you.”
Alex winced. “I know,” he said quietly. “But Luke’s looking at her the way he used to look at me.” He rolled his eyes. “The way he still looks at Reg.” Reggie choked on his own spit. Alex ignored him. “Luke has a lot of love to give,” Alex said. “He loves so much that he doesn’t know what to do with it.”
“I think Julie might be the kind of person who can match that,” Reggie mumbled, looking at Luke and Julie.
“Maybe,” Alex admitted. “But I don’t think Luke likes the love, not the romance.” Alex shrugged. “Luke and I loved each other,” he explained. “We still do. But I wanted someone to be in love with and he didn’t want that.”

The text flashed across Kaz’s phone screen and his stomach leapt into his throat.
“I need to go,” he choked out, waving a hand to grab Oliver’s attention. “Cover for me. I need to go.”
“Kaz, what?” Oliver frowned, looking like Kaz skipped out on work all the time. To be fair, Kaz did skip out on just about everything else and leave Oliver to cover for him, but not Mighty Med.
“Oliver, I need to go,” Kaz stressed. “Like yesterday.” He leaned across where Oliver was sitting at the reception desk to grab the wormhole transporter. “Sorry,” he said, activating a wormhole and stepping through. -

I'm using a series instead of multiple chapters so that each work can be marked as complete and characters and relevant fandoms can be separated. None of these stories(unless specified in the specific work) are directly related, so there is no correct order to read them in. “These are mine.”
Jaskier looks up at the sound of Geralt’s voice, blinking in surprise. The witcher’s tone is even, and his face unexpressive, but Jaskier still tries to read into the words. Geralt is holding a palmful of wrapped sweets in his hand, and a quick glance reveals them to be lemon candies, which Jaskier loves.
And which Geralt hates.
He frowns, confused.
“You don’t even like those,” he feels compelled to announce. His own lingering guilt and fear of being a burden after stealing Geralt’s dagger aside, it makes no sense why Geralt would suddenly decide to forbid candies he doesn’t even like when he’s never denied Jaskier things before. They’ve been to three other towns since then, and he hasn’t brought it up. Jaskier’s avoided any Mischief to avoid creating any problems since then, so it’s not as if he’s given him a pressing reason to suddenly feel the need to scold him.
“They’re mine,” Geralt continues, splitting them between both hands and tucking them into his pockets on either side. “So don’t steal them.”
(Jaskier is part fae and thus has a biological imperative for Mischief) (Geralt proves unexpectedly supportive about this)
