She takes in the sight of him while she gathers her words. Even though he’s in his regular clothes and out of his Kevlar vest, he still looks weighed down. But regardless of how he might answer her, she needs to know.
“Why did you call off the bet, Tim?”
“I told you.”
“No, come on. There’s something else you’re not telling me. You were the one who mentioned a rematch. You were the one who bribed Nell. Face it, you’re just as competitive as I am. But you did a complete one-eighty today. So…what’s going on?”A 4x07 fix-it of sorts that answers why Tim abruptly called off their bet.

Tim looked startled. “What?”
“I mean, aren’t you? I have wondered before,” Lucy teased.
He rolled his eyes and then paused for a beat. “I, uh…what about that guy?”
“Caleb,” Lucy supplied. “Yeah, I don’t know. There’s something about him I can’t put my finger on that seems off, and apparently, you thought that, too. So, I don’t think I’m going to go out with him.”
Yeah, that felt right, she thought as Tim nodded silently.
“Look, if you’re sick of me you can just say no.”
“I’m not sick of you, Boot. I’m just not sure it’s a good idea.”A 2x10/11 AU where Tim gets a drink with Lucy instead of Caleb

Summary
Tim may not have a major in psychology like Lucy, but he had gone through a traumatizing childhood and more than one round at war, not to mention the many years in patrol. He was able to see, first hand, the crazy things people could normalize in their heads and actually get used to. Some of them, although horrible, get stuck with you to the point where you can never fully go back.
He was now learning that the same could happen to not-at-all-horrible stuff as well.
Like kissing Lucy Chen, for example.

Summary
Finally, he turns back to the bar, wordlessly pouring her a shot of tequila. He slides it across the counter toward her, lifting his own glass in a silent gesture of cheers before downing the amber liquid in one fell swoop.
Lucy questions momentarily if maybe this isn’t the best idea — if adding alcohol to the intensity of the anger and grief and resentment that is still radiating off of him will result in anything other than regret.
But again, she opts to stay quiet. If this is what he needs in this moment, this is what she will give him.
She follows suit, wincing as the harshness of the liquor slides down the back of her throat.

Summary
Lucy burst into laughter, and Tim couldn’t help but smile reluctantly at the sound of it. It was a beautiful sound, her laugh, the way it bounced around the shop and made him feel more calm and lighter. Made him feel like he had achieved something by making her laugh, like he deserved a trophy to memorialize his success.
But less so when she was laughing at him, which she was definitely doing right now.
