Summary
Eddie's eyes lock onto Buck's, his voice barely above a whisper. "I want you to come with me to Texas to pick him up." Buck’s silence prompts Eddie to continue. “I know it’s a long drive, but I’d feel better with you there. Plus, Christopher would love it.”
Buck feels himself smiling as he sets his drink down on the counter, putting his hands on his hips. “When do we leave?”
The next morning with both of them packed, Buck and Eddie are making their way to Buck’s gray jeep. Buck's eyes sparkled with the same giddy excitement from last night as he tosses the keys to Eddie. “You drive, I'll navigate.” Eddie smirked, catching the keys midair.
“You'll get us lost.” Eddie says in a teasing tone, making Buck chuckle and shake his head.
“Never gonna happen. Get in.” and with that they are off El Paso.
OR
Buck and Eddie take a road trip to El Paso and the car ride is definitely 100% smooth sailing.... (ish)

Summary
Even though it had been a considerate amount of time, the shooting was still all Buck could think about, day and night. Images of not being able to save his best friend plague both his waking moments as well as his nightmares. He never understood the feeling of true helplessness until he literally had to watch the life draining out eddies eyes from the other side of a fire truck. Buck’s on edge all the time, every public space is another situation full of unknown dangers ready to take down his best friend in a seconds notice.
OR: buck gains a bit more trauma from seeing eddie shot
