Summary
By flying under the radar and giving no one a hint of what she was capable of, 18-year-old Tally Heather shocked the nation of Panem by winning the 69th Annual Hunger Games. All so she could get back home to the only family she has left, her 12-year-old niece, Karin. Hailing from the Community Home of District 12, Tally and Karin were virtually unknown to most. Tally's name being reaped didn't sway a single family amongst the population - just another motherless child to serve to the Capitol. Tally's Covey-like personality, one that holds a deep-seeded hatred for Panem's authoritarian leadership, although not a Covey Girl herself, drives her to mutter a few choice words to President Snow at her Victory Ceremony. Now having suffered her own demises at the hand of Panem's petty President, Tally obtains an alcohol addiction that only someone like her neighbor, Haymitch Abernathy, could understand. The two lone Victors of District 12, drunk and broken, cling to each other as a means to drive away their nightmares and ghosts. And when rebellion begins to spark, all thanks to that spunky Katniss and her berries, Tally may be just what Haymitch needs in order to keep that promise he made 23 years ago.
