Summary
Emrys Dragongreat is an old man who has been alone for a very long time, and he likes it that way.
Arthur Goldraig is an abandoned boy barely thirteen years of age who is just desperately trying to survive on the streets.
When the two meet, it is by accident, late on a cold winter evening. For Emrys, it is a regular Tuesday. For Arthur, it is anything but.
Their meeting is brief and seemingly insignificant, but there’s something about Arthur that makes Emrys find him again and offer to take him in.

Summary
Merlin wakes up in Ismere with no memory of who he is after Morgana knocks him out. The Diomare calls him Emrys and, believing that is his name, and that he is a dragon lord, he calls. He's surprised when two show up, healing one, while giving the other a shock.
He's dropped off at an abandoned house where he precedes to make a life for himself. He ends up with more than he bargained for when a woman shows up begging him to take her magical children in. It keeps happening and before he knows it he has six children relying on him and looking up to him.
Along the way, knights pass by on patrol and quickly identify his new home as a sanctuary and take rest there on occasion while passing through.
