Summary
Butters always seemed to be stumbling through a fog of expectations and judgment, watching every little thing he did to avoid setting off some invisible landmine. Every misstep, every stray thought, every imperfection was met with a scolding. His mom’s voice would rise, going on about responsibility and respect, and his dad would stand there, arms crossed, his eyes heavy with a silent disapproval. Butters, forever the child in their eyes, would shrink under their gazes, nodding mindlessly, mumbling “yes, sir” over and over — empty, automatic words, the ones they wanted to hear.
But here, with Kenny, things felt different. There was no nagging, no lectures. It was like the rules didn’t matter so much, after all.
A sleepover, a kiss, and that feeling that makes the world seem a little bit lighter.

Summary
Butters was always needing to build walls to protect that gentle soul that showed a cruel world too much kindness, so much so he needed others to help build them higher. Even with the three of them together it was still such a lonely place.
At least, until he fell off a wall that was just too high.
At least there was an indestructible net waiting to finally catch him…
