Summary
“Hey, hey,” He sits down next to Buck, resting his hand on top of Buck’s. “What’s going on?” He asks. Buck lifts his head, and Eddie sees his face stained with tears.
“I’m– sorry… I just-” He squeezes his eyes shut in pain and Eddie’s mind is racing.
“Is it your leg?” He quickly asks. Buck nods, unable to speak. Eddie’s quick to take Buck’s boots off and helps take Buck’s turnout pants off. He carefully rolls up Buck’s pant leg, not knowing what he’s gonna find. He doesn’t remember Buck falling, or getting hurt, but he also wouldn’t put it past Buck to hide an injury.
“Eddie…” Buck struggles out as he feels the fabric on his leg being lifted, only adding to the pain he’s feeling. Eddie’s able to get his pant leg rolled up to his knee, but as he’s looking, he can’t find anything. He starts feeling around to maybe see if it’s broken, but again, he doesn’t feel or see anything, only the scar from Buck’s ladder truck incident.
“Is it your other leg? I don’t even remember you getting hurt. I-”
“Eddie!” Buck shouts, trying to get Eddie to calm the hell down and listen to him. “I didn’t get hurt, well, at least not today.”

Summary
"Don't want you to sleep with Tommy again," Eddie slurs when he gets close enough.
Buck startles, unsure where that came from, and gives him an offended look before shaking his head, laughing. He ignores the voice in his head saying now that the competition's out of the way. "You backslide one time and your friends never let you forget it. I do have some dignity, you know."
"No, no, 's not that," Eddie protests. "Don't want you sleeping with any of your exes. Anyone. Well, one person would be fine."
"One person, huh?" Buck asks, amused. "And who would that be?"
Eddie shrugs. "I'm right here. I'm very" — he hiccups— "v'ry flexible, y'know. I stretch every morning."

“I’m tired of settling for people who just tolerate me. I want the next person I’m with to like me for exactly who I am. I feel like I deserve that, you know?”
Buck tilts his head to meet Eddie’s eyes, and there’s a soft, uncertain sort of vulnerability in his eyes. Eddie holds his gaze—finds he can’t look away as the moment swells slowly between them like a bubble, iridescent with possibility, something vague yet essential hovering just around the edges.
“You do deserve that,” Eddie says at last, his voice a little unsteady.
or: Buck’s dates keep finding things wrong with him. But Buck’s red flags are all green to Eddie.

Summary
“It’s Buck's birthday today.” Chimney relayed to their Captain who in turn snapped his eyes to Buck in horror.
“What!?”
Buck couldn’t help but flinch at his tone.
“I don’t understand why you didn’t tell us though?” Eddie said quietly.
Buck glanced over at his best friend who was looking equally confused and sad. He was almost glad that Bobby stormed away from the group, distracting him from Eddie's almost too soft gaze.
Eddie, and his warm chocolate eyes had a way of just undoing him where he stood, and right now he was barely holding himself upright enough.“You’re all making this into a bigger deal then it is…really.” Buck tried protesting, but it was weak and thin and he knew it.
“Actually, I don’t think you’re making a big enough deal of it.” Eddie shot back, the heat of brewing frustration thick on his tongue.

Buck’s birthday (a day he has entirely forgotten about) rolls around and the 118 find out they've actually managed to miss it the last few years. Of course, the firefam do everything they can to make sure Buck understands how loved he actually is.
