Summary
Isami’s head hit the ground hard when Lulu toppled him over. He stared up at the pink dawn and considered that he might’ve been hallucinating. Smith…there was no way he could’ve come back. Isami had lost him once, lost him twice. A third time would just be poetry.
He didn’t let himself glance back to where “Smith” had been as he sat up. He wasn’t sure he’d survive if his wishful thinking got the better of him.
“Isami.”
Isami couldn’t help himself. He looked, and…there he was. The man before him was undeniably Lewis Smith, soft around the edges and with a hand extended for Isami.
Only for Isami.
Isami took it and stood. Their new day was bright.
