she swallows, meeting lena’s eyes briefly, before moving her gaze somewhere safer— on her hands, nervously and tightly clinging to each other as kara leans on the balustrade.
“i just needed some air,” she says, voice small. “i’m sorry.”
lena mimics her, leaning forward just enough to rest her forearms on the balustrade and, to kara’s horror (or delight), leaves one hand open, palm up, inviting.
kara swallows again.
lena doesn’t even notice.

Lena is suddenly right there, wrapping dainty fingers around Kara’s rough ones, and through her enchanting eyes, she tells Kara that everything will be fine; and with her actions, she tells Kara that they’re safe, that no one will hear her as she carefully gets on the couch and straddles Kara’s lap while her heart beats at an alarming rate.

magic takes over national city and gives everyone a heightened sense of hearing. after days of controlling chaos, national city goes silent for one night for everyone's sake while brainy and nia try to solve the problem. all is going well, but not for kara who suddenly has to keep herself from doing anything that might give away her feelings for lena.

kara should be used to it by now, but every time she comes home to her girlfriend passed out on their bed, flat on her stomach with her shirt discarded, bra one clasp away from being undone, she still finds herself needing a pause; a moment to take in the sight and wonder just how lucky she is to be able to see this part of lena no one in the world can ever set their eyes on.
it's not to say that she likes coming home to lena obviously being so exhausted that she cannot finish undressing. still, it warms her inside, and as she closes the door behind her, she feels those little embers in her chest ignite in flames anew.
