Keeping Katniss's family fed without tesserae is not easy and Peeta's parents are pushing him to marry a merchant girl as soon as possible. The best way to escape starvation and a prison of a marriage is to marry each other, but that would require Katniss to let go of a promise she made to herself a long time ago, to never marry anyone.

When Cecilia Heratus (now Kingsley) won, he was mildly tipsy, knowing that he could improve the interview prep next time. When Finnick Odair won his Games, Haymitch fell asleep in his own vomit. Haymitch can’t remember a second of Johanna Mason’s Games after the Cornucopia.
(Maggie Mae Johnson and Martin Hager. Maggie Mae had a high-pitched voice and looked out the window every second she could. Martin was Haymitch’s year in school and didn’t listen to Haymitch. He could juggle. They died at the Cornucopia.)
