But it’s definitely a demotion, so I wouldn’t mess with him. He’s probably pissed about it and out to ruin our lives.”
Lucy chews thoughtfully on the end of her pen as she half listens, half wonders.
What could Officer Bradford have done to deserve a demotion?
And does she want to get on his bad side?
She kind of liked the spark she’d seen in him this morning, and the way he’d approached her and yelled at her had caused something warm and funny to happen in her belly.
She kind of wants to poke at him again, just to see what happens.

The way the sink had a different color underneath it. How the tile was cracked by the corner in the shower. It wasn’t strange that the room felt so unfamiliar, really. She had moved in just a couple of months ago. There was a lot in the house that felt unfamiliar and new.
