Before Nirei can even blink, Spider-man is suddenly in front of him, landing in a low crouch. His hand reaches out toward Nirei, and wrapping Nirei’s middle with half of his scarf, as if it can make a decent safety measure, and then launches them both upward with another well-aimed web shot. Nirei yelps, clutching tightly onto the boy's shoulders. They land with a soft thump on the rooftop. Nirei’s heart is pounding, and he’s still clinging on, legs wobbly and brain still blank, and Spider-Man steadies him, his hands resting gently on Nirei’s arms. “Stay here,” he says, “I’ll deal with the rest.” Nirei nods, almost too fast. “Okay,” he manages, cheeks flushing as he sways slightly in place. Spider-Man lingers just a second longer, gaze unreadable beneath the mask. And then he’s gone again, leaping off into the shadows, back into the chaos below, leaving Nirei flushing, his cheeks hot and his heart beating faster than ever.
